Is Harry's House a dream house?

In a week I will finally be able to withess HArry Styles performing live on tour and I am beyond excited. I was thinking, what can I write related to this event and finally decided to talk about his latest album. Even though it was released a year ago, it is never to late to talk about some good music, isn't it?

So, the album is called "Harry's House" and it's the third album released by Styles. I really liked previous releases by this singer so I was so excited to finally hear a peace of new vibey music.

First of all, I want to talk about the aesthetic component. I am a visual person and the picture is very important to me. Here Harry and his team made me happy. Muted pastel colors evoke a vibe of comfort and make you feel cozy. If the goal of such stylistic decisions was to "feel at home", then it succeeded. You really feel like you're visiting that stylish and rich aunt you rarely see, but that doesn't make her any less cool.

From the very first promo campaign, I was intrigued. Later, with the announcement of the track list, my interest did not diminish, but it made me wonder about the sound of particular songs. To be honest, some titles made me think that if it was not Harry Styles, but some unknown artist, then I would hardly have paid attention to the song "music for a sushi restaurant". You know, it sounds kind of strange. Interesting, but strange.

Well, I propose to discuss the musical part of this album, since there were no problems with the PR part. As I said, I liked everything from the visual side.

So, I can describe "Harry's House" in three words: strange but catchy. Some of the metaphors in the lyrics made me cringe a little, but after a few listens, phrases like "Green eyes, fried rice, I could cook an egg on you" start to sound a lot less weird. On the contrary, you start to find it interesting and vibey.

Green eyes, fried rice, I could cook an egg on you - "Music for a Sushi Restaurant", Harry Styles

I have already listened to the album quite a few times and I want to say that the Top 3 for me look like this:

  1. Cinema

  2. Love Of My Life

  3. Daylight

It is worth to be noted that "Cinema" was written by Sammy Witte, which took part in the creation of one of my favorite music albums ever - When Facing The Things We Turn Away From by Luke Hemmings. Probably that's the reason I liked "Cinema" the most - it had the vibe of the music I've already loved.

The next song - "Love Of My Life" is a very beautiful love song that made my eyes teary and I really like it when music makes you emotional. You feel the feelings artists put into a song and can process some of your own stories which are amazing.

And the last but not least is "Daylight" and this song ended up so high on my top after I saw a music video for it. Well, it's not a real music video, it was made during one of the shows and was made with a low price and minimum professional help but it turned out so good and so fun. And the song, like a good wine, aged great.

As a Ukrainian, I also want to talk about the song "As It Was", or rather about the music video. It was filmed by Ukrainian director Tanu Muino and her wonderful team. The start of filming began on February 24, 2022, which was the day War in Ukraine started. I watched the interview when Harry said that the team was super professional and did their job despite all the pain they were feeling. I'm really proud of Tanu and her team because they not only created amazing work for a lot of famous artists but also showed how strong and talented Ukrainian people could be.

But back to Harry's House. I am not a music expert and cannot judge this album as a professional. From the side of the average listener, this album seemed good to me. At the same time, I think that this time Harry came out a little weaker than it was with his previous albums. To be honest, a well-known name of the performer gives a lot of odds to this musical work. It's not bad by any means, but if a lesser-known artist released an album like this, it would get a lot less love and attention.

I can't say that in the long run, I will often return to many songs from this album. 3 to 4 songs will settle in my playlists at once, but in general, I will not often return to this album, as it was, for example, with "Fine Line".

In general, this release was remembered for me more from the visual side. I am very happy to hear and see Harry again, not only as an actor but also as a great musician. It's also interesting for me to watch the development of his work, but at the same time, the words from the same Harry's song "You know it's not the same as it was" are perfect for this album.

I don't think it's bad. It grows and changes, which is natural for any artist. It's nice to see how he wives from what he does and it is strongly transmitted to his audience and affects the perception of music. I like it when artists create for themselves first and not for marketing. So you feel a connection with the artist and see that what this artist is doing is real. They share their stories with us through music and that's great because we can find a lot for ourselves. It has a great therapeutic effect.

Who should listen to Harry's House? Harry fans! And also for those who like calm but atmospheric music, with a touch of indie and pop. I would say if you shazam songs in sushi restaurants, then run to listen to Mr. Stiles' new album, because it will blow your mind. In any case, listening to this album will give you an interesting experience and that's great. So go ahead and listen if you haven't already. And if you did, share your favorite tracks with me. I would be glad to know your opinion!
